Wildlife conservation at Mandai Wildlife Reserve in Singapore
“When guests leave inspired — not just entertained — that’s when we know we’ve done our job.”
— Chandra Mohan, Manager, Animal Behaviour & Programmes, Mandai Wildlife Group
Inspiring the next generation through wildlife education, conservation, and sustainable travel in Southeast Asia
Mandai Wildlife Reserve is transforming what a modern wildlife park can be. More than a place to see animals, it’s an economic driver of conservation, and a place where people come to learn and be inspired to protect the environment.
In this film of Travel Redefined, we meet Theresa and Chandra, two passionate team members working across education and animal welfare. Animal care goes beyond shelter and nutrition to include environmental enrichment, encouraging natural behaviors and cognitive stimulation. Materials used for enrichment are often recycled or salvaged, reducing waste and promoting a circular mindset.
The Reserve’s impact also stretches far beyond its boundaries. Through the Mandai Nature Fund, visitor contributions support wildlife rescue and rehabilitation programs across Southeast Asia, including orangutan conservation in Indonesia. Closer to home, initiatives like pollinator-friendly planting and the eco-link wildlife bridge help maintain habitat connectivity and support native species like pangolins and butterflies.
By integrating conservation with meaningful guest experiences, Mandai is proving that zoos can play an active role in preserving our global biodiversity.
