How community tourism can help protect the Amazon and preserve Indigenous culture

“We have only one mother  Pachamama and we are a single family, children of the jungle.”

— Delfin Pauchi Uhigua, Quechua Community Leader

The founder of G Adventures and his longest-standing local partner share an emotional reunion – and explore what community tourism means.

This is where it all began for Bruce Poon Tip, founder of G Adventures. In the Ecuadorian Amazon, he met Delfin Pauchi Uhigua, a local guide who would become a lifelong friend and the company’s first community tourism partner.

Years later, Bruce returns to reconnect — with the land, with Delfin Pauchi Uhigua and with the people who helped to make G Adventures what it is today. This film tells the story of that partnership.

Delfin’s message is clear: through responsible tourism, his family and community have been able to protect a stretch of rainforest that would otherwise be at risk. Visitors don’t just witness culture, they help preserve it. And in turn, they take away an understanding of the lives of Indigenous people in this part of the Amazon.

Together, G Adventures and their partners in the Amazon are showing that community tourism can uplift people, celebrate identity, and protect nature.
