Rethinking Water Policy

Rivers, coastal waters, and seas are all facing mounting pressures, and water management systems designed 30 years ago are no longer fit for purpose. They fall short of meeting today’s regulatory demands, let alone the challenges of the future. Through the project A Fresh Water Future, CIWEM is calling for urgent policy reform to address the state of the UK’s water environment. As explained here by Alastair Chisholm, Director of Policy, this initiative aims to influence government officials to adopt these crucial changes.

Nature-based solutions are central to these adaptations, benefiting not only the environment but society as a whole. By blending traditional methods with modern technology, we can propel the water management sector into a new era. It all begins with updated policies, regulations, and the development of technology that reflects practical, on-the-ground success.
