Harnessing Data for a More Resilient Environment

APEM Group carried out an innovative Continuous Water Quality Monitoring (CWQM) project, for United Utilities, aimed at safeguarding vital water supplies and ensuring regulatory compliance in the River Kent, Kendal.

The project focused on real-time monitoring of water quality across key catchments, using state-of-the-artsensor technology. By deploying a network of CWQM stations, APEM Group were able to continuously track a range of water quality parameters, such as pH, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This proactive approach enables early detection of pollution events, allowing United Utilities to respond more effectively and mitigate potential environmental impacts.

One of the biggest aspects of this project was the integration of data analytics; utilising advanced data management systems to process the continuous stream of information, providing actionable insights in real time. This data-driven approach facilitated rapid decision-making, helping to reduce environmental risk and maintain compliance with stringent water quality standards.
