Climate change is one of the most pressing economic and social challenges we face, and the maritime industry is at the heart of this.
With 90% of world trade, including food, transported by sea, the International Maritime Organisation’s ambitious goal of net zero emissions by 2050 has never been more vital. Cargill sees wind power as a key solution to reducing emissions and lowering the future costs of zero-carbon fuels, which will inevitably be more expensive than current alternatives.
Cargill’s been testing wind propulsion technologies for over a decade, and today, three of their chartered vessels are already sailing with different wind propulsion technologies. Through these experiments, we’re gaining invaluable insights into their strengths and weaknesses, helping us understand what works best for scaling up in the future. Cargill’s vision is clear — to bring together stakeholders from across the value chain and collaborate to make shipping more sustainable, leveraging wind power to reduce emissions and chart a course toward a cleaner, greener future for the industry.
